Real Life Wedding is back and this time it’s off to Kilkenny! Helen got in touch with me which I was delighted with as I hadn’t covered Kilkenny yet. I try and move them around the country as much as I can so that everyone might get inspiration for venues and suppliers and and also some tips from previous brides and grooms. Have a read of Helen & Robert’s big day with their stunning pics.

How did you find planning your wedding?
We are very much an organised couple so planning our wedding was a fun and enjoyable experience. The first thing we decided on and booked was our hotel, The New Park. We had attended a number of weddings in the New Park and were very impressed by their standard. The hotel’s Wedding and Events Co-ordinator Oral Murphy was so helpful and a joy to deal with. Once we had a date set it was a matter of sending emails to different suppliers and finding out their availability. We were very lucky to book everyone we wanted. Robert played his part too, he kept an eye on our budget and made sure I was sticking to it!
Robert and I wanted our wedding day to be very personal. When designing our wedding invites we used a picture that was taken from the spot were Robert proposed to me. We used milk churns for our flower arrangements outside the church as Robert is a dairy farmer. We also incorporated the wellies I was wearing when Robert proposed in the flower arrangements. We tried to involve as many of our friends and family as possible in the day giving them different roles. My mum made our wedding cake and beautiful ring cushion. Fr Tom Norris who is a neighbour and family friend married us. So many of our friends and family played small but important roles from transport of bridesmaids to making sure the flower arrangements got from the church to the hotel reception. Everyone’s input helped make our day very special.
I enjoyed the whole wedding dress shopping experience. I went with my mum to Cameo Bridal not thinking I would find my dress so quick. As a child I use to walk past looking at the beautiful dresses in the window. From the moment I stepped in the door Lynda put me at ease telling me I was under no pressure to buy today and to relax and enjoy the experience. After trying on a few dresses it came very clear to me that the first dress I had tried on was the one. I visited a couple more bridal stores after Cameo to reassure myself I was picking the right dress but none of the dresses or experiences compared.
Was your groom/bridesmaids hands on?
My beautiful bridesmaids were Nicola Bamrick (Maid of honour) Caroline Mc Fadden and Aoife Wemyss. The girls couldn’t have done more for me. They helped make the lead up to the wedding to be fun and a stress free experience. When I wanted help or an option they were always there. The groomsmen were Edward Forristal (Best Man), Kieran Barron and James Grennan. The men did a great job and got Robert dressed and to the church on time.
Favourite moment of the day?
There was so many, but a couple of standout moments of mine were my Dad seeing me for the first time as a bride. It was a very special and emotional moment caught beautifully by Derek. Another very special moment that stood out for me was walking up the aisle I was more excited than nervous and couldn’t wait to see Robert.
Robert’s favourite moment was seeing me walking up the aisle and seeing me for the first time. But another moment he found very special was during the speeches. Although it may be a daunting task to make your own speech in front of a crowd, while also hoping the best man won’t land you in trouble, Robert says seeing the smiling faces of our guests made him feel how much support we as a couple have from friends and family.
For both us standing in the middle of the dance floor together for the last song of the night surround by a big circle of our friends and family was a very special. Having all your friends and family around us to celebrate with us on our big day was a lovely feeling.
Were there any hiccups on the day of the wedding?
Some people would say the weather was against us as it did rain but for us the sun shined all day. Derek from Memento Photography really embraced the weather and used it to his advantage getting some beautiful shots.

What do you wish you had known when planning your wedding?
You can’t do everything and there will be small things you will forget but that’s okay!
Do you wish you had done anything differently? E.g. booked something earlier, different supplier, invited more/less, etc?
Very small things, like making sure the guest book is taken from the lobby of the hotel and passed around to the different tables for people to sign during the meal. But to be honest the day was everything we wanted and more.
And not only beautiful photos, but you can take a look at their preview wedding video here!
Thank you to Helen & Robert for sharing their day with me!
Love from my world,
