So while the main focus is on planning the wedding and saying I do, planning an amazing holiday together will really make memories to last a lifetime. Just think after months, if not years, planning your dream day, everything going to plan, wouldn’t you need a little rest after it? And when are you ever again going to have the excuse to blow the budget and have the holiday of your dreams but on your honeymoon!
Traditionally, it’s up to the groom to plan the honeymoon but there is another person that can help both of you with ‘the dream honeymoon’ and that is your Travel Counsellor! I only learned of Travel Counsellors in the last 6 months and I’m quickly learning that they seem like the perfect people to help with holiday plans. I caught up with Noreen who is a Travel Counsellor covering the Limerick/Kerry/Cork region to get her advice on honeymoons and what really is a travel counsellor!

Are couples still booking big honeymoons or going for mini-moons?
Both, if a couple is building a house, have just built a house or have young kids they may opt for a mini-moon. The norm is a big honeymoon as couples feel that it will be the only chance to have a holiday of a lifetime before they start their family.
What is the average honeymoon period?
The average honeymoon period is between 10 days to 3 weeks depending on the destination and how complex their itinerary is going to be.
What is the average amount of money spent on a honeymoon?
Anything between €3,000 to €10,000 depending on the length of the time on honeymoon, the destination and the time of year.
How far in advance of the wedding should couples start thinking about booking their honeymoon?
Anything between 6-9 months as the earlier it is booked the cheaper it may be and the better the availability.
Any dos or don’t for couples when booking honeymoons?
Don’t leave it until the last minute to book their honeymoon as it will be more expensive. Ensure that they book the honeymoon that they both want and will enjoy.
Most popular wedding destination?
