How to create your own Wedding or Hen Party Snapchat filter!

Social media like it or loathe it, it’s not going anywhere. Yes people are getting sick of it and we are all guilty of spending way too much time on it. Even if you choose to have an unplugged wedding ceremony, why not have a personalised snapchat filter for your evening reception. Or why not surprise the bride to be with a filter for the Hen Party? I recently got one for my birthday and it added a nice touch to some of the photos, especially if they are printed for an album after. Here’s how you can get your own!

Part 1: Choosing the Filter

If you don’t know about Etsy.com, where have you been?! Get ready to spend hours trawling online for lots of pretty things that you probably don’t need. It’s a great site for any DIY bits you are looking for for your wedding. You might remember from my Selfie Station blog post here, I purchased some of the prop templates on Etsy.

First visit the Etsy website here & search ‘wedding snapchat filter’. Lots of different ones will be displayed and they come in a range of different options. I’ve picked out some of my favourites…

Most filters are under €10 and it’s yours to keep. When you purchase the filter you want it will be emailed to you. Some filters will be edited for you by the seller, others you will need to edit yourself. Just check the details when purchasing. If you are editing your filter yourself, make sure to leave a little space at the bottom, some phones may cut off the design if it’s too close to the bottom. If you can edit the filter yourself, then you can reuse for different occasions. Once you have completed the design make sure to save a copy to your desktop so you can upload it in part 2.

Part 2: Setting it live

Now that you have your filter designed and you are happy with it, it’s time to schedule it for when you want to to be live. Here’s a step by step guide on how to put it live, it’s better if you do all of this on a desktop, not mobile.

1. Visit Snapchat’s Geofilters website here
2. Click create your geofilter
3. Click Personal
4. Sign in with your Snapchat login details
5. Click upload
6. Choose the file you have saved on your desktop
7. Select the dates and time you want the filter to be live
*Bare in mind the longer the time, the more expensive it will be. For a wedding reception roughly from 4pm – 4am, it should be under €20. You can schedule up to 6 months in advance, so if your wedding or hen is between now and July, what are you waiting for?
8. Select the location using the maps – again the larger the location the more it will cost
9. Checkout – Pay and wait for the day so you can swipe left for your very own filter!

Hope that’s easy to follow and if you do purchase a filter make sure to post a pic on my Facebook page, after your event of course so not to spoil the surprise.

Love from my world,

Lisa x
