How did you find planning your wedding?
I loved every moment of the planning of the wedding. There were stressful times but I would do it all again in the morning! It just goes by so quickly that you shouldn’t wish a moment of it away.
Was your groom/bridesmaid hands on?
Mike was not particularly hands on in the planning of the wedding but I don’t think that I really encouraged him to be either. We were lucky that we both agreed on the important things like location, band, that it would be formal etc so then he really didn’t worry about the smaller details. He did choose our photographer after seeing his work at a friend’s wedding that I was unable to attend. I felt I had to be open to his suggestion as he had been so easy going about everything and he got it so right! The photographer was one of the most important things for me so I am so grateful that Mike chose Darren. Suzanne, my bridesmaid and sister was extremely hands on and so helpful which was great and it made the whole experience fun and memorable. She would push me towards more adventurous ideas and reel me when I was getting carried away!
Were there any hiccups on the day of the wedding?
The week before the wedding there were terrible storms all over the country and trees were knocked down everywhere but the weather completely cleared on the few days leading up to the wedding so I didn’t think any of this would impact our day. We had always planned to have our photos taken in the beautiful park across from the church but when we left the church after the rehearsal the night before we only then noticed that the park was closed due to fallen trees. I was surprisingly un-fazed by this and decided it would all work out in the morning and I never gave it another thought. The next day I let Darren take the lead as to where he would like to photograph us and I could not be happier with the results.
Favourite moment of the day?
There are so many moments that I actually find it hard to choose as it was honestly the best day of my life. However, it was probably when the church doors opened and I saw Mike at the top of the church and seeing everyone we cared about in the church. It was a magical moment to know that everyone was there to help celebrate our day. I enjoyed every moment of walking up the aisle passing loved ones and moving closer and closer to Mike. Other highlights were getting the bridal party photos taken as we just had so much fun. That’s why I think it is so important to pick bridesmaids and groomsmen that are very close to you, a good laugh, and someone you really want to be there and enjoy the moment with you. Finally, another of the many memories that sticks out for me is the energy when myself and Mike entered the reception room. It was truly electric and I actually felt like a rockstar!
What do you wish you had know when planning your wedding?
That it all works out and that things like the weather are out of your control. All your planning won’t predict certain things happening but these things make your day stand out from anyone else’s and make it even better then you could have ever imagined!
Anything unusual that you want to promote the supplier?
My sister who was my bridesmaid is a very talented artist and designs personalised jute bags specialising in bridal bags. When I first got engaged she presented me with my bridal bag which became a wardrobe staple for me. It was brought on every shopping trip and to every wedding fair carrying wedding shoes and various other wedding accessories. She also designed a personalised caricature guest board which guests signed as they arrived and throughout the wedding which I had instead of a guest book. She really captured myself and Mike and incorporated our different interests. I still stop and read all the lovely messages from everyone and it’s something we will treasure forever. She has also started designing personalised invitations. You can contact her and see all her designs through Facebook on her Art by Suzie page.
Our photographer was the amazingly talented Darren Kirwan. Not only do I love every photo he took and I feel he captured the day and everyone involved perfectly but he was a really nice guy to have around. We felt so comfortable getting our photos done and when we were getting ready we didn’t notice he was there when in fact he was snapping our favourite shots. I do not know how he moved around that church and managed to capture myself and Mike as well as everyone else from so many angles! One of the best parts of the day was while the band was setting up Darren put up a slideshow of the day to that point. It was amazing to see the day unfold again from a different perspective and most of the room was in tears by the end of it. Here it is!
Do you wish you had done anything differently? E.g. booked something earlier, different supplier, invited more/less, etc?
I am lucky enough to say that I wouldn’t change a thing about the day. What I would say though is really not to stress about anything, especially the little things on the lead up to the day. I would recommend taking inspiration from others but don’t feel you have to do what every other bride and groom have done before you. The only small regret I have is that I never got to sit with Mike before the meal when people were being seated and have a glass of champagne just the two of us as we had planned. It was the only time I got throughout the whole day to touch up my makeup.
Thanks so much to Lyndsey for letting me know the details of her special day. I got one of Suzanne’s bags as a hen party gift for my cousin and I will be featuring Art by Suzie and her wonderful bags in the coming months!
Love from my world,
